ROLLIN' ON THE RIVER

Like Tombstone, the Pleasant Valley and Fort Bowie, Yuma has a colorful history, one that includes the usual elements of the Old West. Steamboats are part of the history, too. For more than 50 years, "sternwheelers" moved commercial goods up, down, and back and forth on the Colorado River. The last of them was the Searchlight, which ran the river until 1916.
