A plateau is a relatively level area that rises sharply above the surrounding landscape. The Colorado Plateau is our country''s most extensive. Named by John Wesley Powell and centered on the Four Corners, it covers an area of more than 150,000 square miles and ranges in elevation from 2,000 to 12,700 feet. It''s big. And it''s beautiful.
