A mule deer (Odocoileus hemionus) buck trots through a marshy area. Frequently spotted on roadsides, mule deer can be found throughout Arizona, except in the extreme southwest corner of the state.

A snowy egret (Egretta thula), a small member of the heron family, snags a fish at the Riparian Preserve at Water Ranch in the Phoenix suburb of Gilbert. This species is most often spotted in shallow coastal wetlands, but it migrates through Arizona.
